“From Mobile Phones to Court“ (FORMOBILE), a project funded by EU’s Horizon 2020 – Research and Innovation Framework Programme, focuses on questions mainly evolving around modern technology (i.e. smartphones) and usage of data, held on various devices, in court. Aiming at establishing a complete end-to-end forensic investigation chain concerning the latter, the project’s overarching goal is also including provision of insight into the relevant field regulation of each Member State.

ODI has been engaged as a foreign expert to give insight into Slovenian criminal procedure regulation, tasked with helping to understand how mobile forensic tools aimed at retrieving, decoding and further analysing information from a mobile device are allowed under the applicable criminal law.

The goal of the project is creating better mobile forensic tools to help combat crime more efficiently, enlarging the capacities of both first responders, common forensic laboratories and highly specialised laboratories, and experts by providing them with better tools to acquire, decode, and analyse data coming from mobile devices.
