The WJP Rule of Law Index 2016 (6th edition), the world`s most impartial and comprehensive data set of its kind, has been published. It presents a portrait of the rule of law in each country by providing scores and rankings organised around 44 indicators across eight primary factors: constraints on government powers, absence of corruption, open government, fundamental rights, order and security, regulatory enforcement, civil justice, and criminal justice. These factors are intended to reflect how people experience rule of law in everyday life. Effective rule of law helps reduce corruption, improve public health, enhance education, alleviate poverty, and protect people from injustices. The country scores and rankings for the WJP Rule of Law Index 2016 are derived from more than 110,000 household and expert surveys. This year’s edition covers 113 countries and jurisdictions (from 102 in 2015).

ODI partner, Matjaž Jan, who is World Justice Project Rule of Law Index contributing expert, offered again his expertise in the corporate and commercial law segment for Slovenia to help create this year`s report.

ODI is proud to be featured in IR Global’s private M&A market report titled “Vanishing Borders: How the private M&A market is making global gains.” IR Global is the fastest growing professional service firm network in the world, providing legal, accountancy and financial advice to companies and individuals across 150 jurisdictions. The report analyzes the rise of the global M&A market of private mid-market businesses and the advantages of seeking the help of middle size legal advisors as opposed to the largest multinational firms.

In his statement, ODI’s Managing Partner Uroš Ilić sheds light on how building up non-formalized networks with leading international law firms globally enables ODI to advise clients on international transactions and cross-border due diligence with the highest competency, while still maintaining the advantages of being a middle-sized firm. He says: “Networks allow our teams to function in a manner similar to international firms. The clients can rely on us for coordination, and the attention they receive from our partners is generally higher than in an international full-service firm.” Cross-border deals form an important part of ODI’s practice and the firm places a strong emphasis on their development.

The report also features information regarding ODI’s work is the privatization process of the Slovenian aircraft maintenance company Adria Tehnika, which was acquired by the Polish investor Linetech in 2015. ODI conducted the due diligence of the target company and advised Linetech on the bidding process, the share and asset deal and the post-closing integration.
